Some good news on the environment front. Ontario announced today that all gasoline sold in the province must contain 5% ethanol by 2007.
Saskatchewan and Manitoba have recently introduced similar laws requiring 10% and 7.5% respectively.
Ethanol is becoming more common in fuel options lately… it’s made by refining alcohol produced by wheat, straw and other organic material and burns significantly cleaner than regular unleaded gasoline.
One interesting fact on the CBC article that I was not aware of:
The requirements move in the direction of taking car fuels back to their beginnings. The original Model T designed by Henry Ford in 1908 could run on ethanol, which Ford expected to be the fuel of the future.
